Lonnie Leger announced his retirement with LONI effective 30 June 2025. Lonnie Leger started working with LSU ITS in February 2005 when the concept of a REN was first discussed at LSU. Lonnie was hired to design and build the network, and within a few years, LONI had onboarded its first few subscribers. Lonnie became the Executive Director in 2013 and has grown the number of staff and members since then. He led efforts in peering with other RENs which significantly increased LONI’s ability to access markets that were unavailable in Louisiana. He grew the reach of the LONI network via IRUs, bids, and grants, and worked to ensure Louisiana researchers had access to High Performance Computing resources. More recently, he played a key role in establishing the LONI SOC.
